TAOTAO Tano CNMI Inc. leaders who have expressed concern about fluoridated drinking water were given the chance over the weekend to tour the facilities of Saipan Ice & Water Incorporated.
The group met with the owner of Saipan Ice because they want to make sure that the fluoridated water is safe.
Over the past two weeks, the Taotao Tano leaders said they have been communicating with Saipan Ice owner Eileen Olopai Pelligrino,
They said they want to learn more about fluoridated water.
On Friday, the group arrived at the firm’s facility in Lower Base where the human resources officers took them on a brief tour.
Taotao Tano president Greg Cruz’s wife, Jing, said in a telephone interview yesterday that they were allowed to see some portions of the plant.
She said they wanted to see the rest of the facility and are trying to schedule another visit.
She said they want to see the laboratories and take video footage of the entire process.
“We were shown bottles with green caps to indicate fluoridated water — and bottles with blue caps to indicate regular distilled drinking water,” Mrs. Cruz said in an e-mail.
She said although brochures providing information about fluoridated water have satisfied them, they still want to know if the information is given to the consumers when they buy the product at stores on island.
The plant personnel, Mrs. Cruz said, showed them the equipment so “we could familiarize ourselves with what fluoridated water is all about.”
She said Taotao Tano still recommends that brochures be provided to every store where fluoridated water is available.
Taotao Tano also plans to visit other water companies, she said.
